Everyone should be able to go out and get themselves a copy of Mortal Kombat on Playstation Vita about now, if they so choose. That means it’s time for a launch trailer.
The clip takes a look at some of the characters and fan favorites that will do a reprise in this edition. More so, it focuses on their ominous entrances. Additionally, the launch trailer shows off the goods with the exclusive content available on the handheld version. A whole bunch of missions get shown, some quirkier than others. Some also make use of the Vita’s touchscreen capabilities. Lastly, it takes one final look at the classic skins already detailed earlier.
As much as the internet keeps claiming that Call of Duty is dead, sales continue to prove otherwise. Once again, a newly announced Call of Duty game has smashed pre-order records. Modern Warfare 2 did it three years ago, Black Ops the year after that, MW3 last year, and now Black Ops 2 has continued the trend this year by beating all of them.
But Blops 2 didn’t only beat those games, it demolished them. Amazon says that Black Ops 2 had 10x the number of pre-orders on its first day than the first Black Ops did on its first day. It even beat Modern Warfare 3 by more than 30%. If you’ll recall, MW3 didn’t only break the all-time pre-order record for video games, but for all entertainment include books and movies. Black Ops 2 seems well on its way to grabbing that distinction as well.

Another week, another shred of evidence that Black Ops 2 is real and is coming this year. Large Spanish/Portuguese games website FNAC has listed Black Ops 2 for preorder with a release date of November 2012. The ad is actually still up, and has been all day. At this point the evidence is just too much to ignore. This is extremely reminiscent of the hubbub leading up to the MW3 announcement. A bunch of leaks and slips followed by denials prior to an eventual announcement. We fully expect Black Ops 2 to be officially announced before this year’s E3 event, where it will likely debut.

It’s not exactly shocking news, but Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has offically confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be released in 2012.
This keeps up with the yearly tradition that the franchise has fallen into, with Treyarch once again getting their turn this year. Kotick didn’t mention any specifics about the game but the rumors thus far, including a recent domain acquisition, all point at that game being Black Ops 2.
Treyarch has traditionally created a new story and setting for each of their games, but Black Ops was so successful that it seems likely they will revisit that specific story and setting for their next game. Since Activision isn’t one to mess with success we expect the game to be officially revealed soon, then followed by a big blowout/demo at E3 and finally a release in early November.
The real question in all of this will be how much more gamers are willing to take. Despite Modern Warfare 3′s massive sales records, the general feeling seems to be that the Call of Duty franchise is beginning to grow stale with yearly incremental upgrades. Black Ops 2 would almost certainly be another of these, with the next Infinity Ward game likely taking the next big step in 2013 possibly on the next generation of consoles.
